COVID-19 and the Caribbean Internet: Weekly Webinar Series starts April 10

With COVID-19 disrupting business and information technology systems in the Caribbean and worldwide, a new suite of webinars is offering participants real-time understanding of the challenges, solutions and best practices to address ongoing changes to network services and digital services delivery.

The weekly webinar series, called “COVID-19 and the Caribbean Internet,” explores the evolving impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on a broad range of Caribbean life. It covers four key areas—infrastructure, security, access policy, and best practices.

Among several Internet development organisations behind the new series is the Caribbean Network Operators Group (CaribNOG), the region’s only not-for-profit volunteer-based community dedicated to strengthening computer networks and critical telecommunications infrastructure.

“The ARIN CaribNOG webinar series will provide IT managers, network administrators and IT support teams with practical solutions for securing, optimising and scaling network infrastructure, as well tools and techniques used by network experts in the Caribbean and across the world,” said Bevil Wooding, executive director of CaribNOG and Caribbean Outreach Liaison at the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN).

The initiative is spearheaded by ARIN and CaribNOG, in collaboration with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission, the Latin American Internet Registry (LACNIC), the Internet Society (ISOC) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

The one-hour series opener, titled “Managing Virtual Offices and Remote Workers: Business Continuity Consideration for Tech Workers,” takes place on April 9 from 10 am EST. More information is available on the CaribNOG website.
